Congressman Smith holds private meetings with veterans
What started out as a routine political visit turned into a round of confusion. At the request of veterans, Congressman Adrian Smith met with several VA clinics across the third district.
The meetings were originally listed, as being open to the public, but then were removed from the Congressman agenda. Smith held private meetings with VA clinic residents instead. He says geographic barriers are a concern for veterans. We asked Congressman Smith to respond to Senate Candidate Bob Kerrey's latest ads against Senate Candidate Deb Fischer. Kerrey makes allegations that Fischer would somehow gut the VA system or limit veterans benefits, which Fischer denies. "I'm not aware of that. Certainly, she's been a state senator and I know that she's a strong supporter of veterans at the state level," said Smith. Referring back to the private meeting held, Smith says patients prefer privacy which is one of the reasons why he met with VA residents privately. |
