And then there were two. In November, Democrat Bob Kerrey will face off against Republican Deb Fischer for Nebraska's U.S. Senate seat.

Not sure how many predicted that match-up a few months back.

But, Fischer won the Republican nomination by more than 10,000 votes.

News 5's Josh Egbert was in Lincoln Tuesday night and spoke with Fischer moments after she declared victory.

"It's great to see all the support and excitement," said Fischer.

Supporters at state Senator Deb Fischer's watch party were smiling from ear to ear as she claimed victory in the republican senate primary.

"It's a lot of months until November and I look forward to discussing the issues with Nebraskans," Fischer said.

The evening started out on a positive note for Jon Bruning. The attorney general led in the polls most of the night, taking the early lead thanks to absentee ballots.

But late in the evening, the tide turned and just after 10:00, Fischer was declared the winner.

"I just got off the phone with Deb Fischer and conceded the race," said Bruning.

"Jon said he would endorse me, he would campaign and I welcome that, he's a tough campaigner, he's a good campaigner and that would be helpful," said Fischer.

With the final numbers in, just 10,000 votes seperated Fischer and Bruning.

Fischer received just under 80,000 votes, and Bruning, just over 69,000.

"This has been a tough primary against worthy opponents whom I respect. To them I say while we have different approaches we all share a conservative vision," said Bruning.

"I'm going to work hard, I'm going to highlight the differences between us," said Fischer.

But, for Fischer and her staff, there was little time for celebrating. After a press conference Wednesday morning, Fischer was off and running, looking forward to November.

"I'll sit with my staff and we'll make our plans for the general election," said Fischer.
