Kerrey challenges Fischer to debate

Tools

Deb Fischer turned down a chance to debate Bob Kerrey. But, the Democratic Senate candidate isn't letting Fischer get away that easily.

Kerrey has asked Fischer to take part in seven debates before the general election in November.

The former Nebraska governor is proposing three debates in the Lincoln-Douglass style. One in each congressional district.

A Lincoln-Douglass format, requires both candidates to take turns speaking and posing questions to each other.

Kerrey would like those debates to last two hours each.

Fischer said Monday night that she would be unable to take part in an American Legion Cornhusker Boys and Girls debate because of a prior commitment.

Kerrey has already accepted a debate invitation to the Nebraska State Fair.
