I am so ready to go it is hard to sleep sometimes. Putting my stuff together to get it in the bags for the plane on the 15th. Cleaning the room up. Getting laundry done. Getting all the paperwork ready. Got the official papers and I am ready to roll.
Today is short and sweet. Letting all who are watching that everything is good. The weather is hot. It is also getting hotter outside the wire. We get reports and it has been obvious that they, whoever they are, are testing us b/c the base is drawing down. They have had an IED attack everyday for the last couple of weeks. More rocket attacks then when we started. I am not sure what all that means but you can tell about the patients that come in that they are more anxious. These guys have a really, really hard job. It is consistently 120's and they often go on missions outside the wire for 12 + hours and they have to be vigilant all the time especially lately. They try to stay hydrated but it is challenging b/c if you drink too much you have to go to the bathroom on the side of the road. Very difficult for them. If you ever see a regular soldier and they have been here you shake there hand and tell them thank you. I can't imagine the mental fatigue of been in this zone. Faceless enemies and terrible conditions. Always on edge and struggling to really stay alive b/c of the heat. These guys are true heros.
Dean is doing well. He is anxious also. His radish farm had to be restarted but with the new dirt it produced a lot more activity and faster but we have ran out of time. I took a picture to show you one last look.
It has done well and he has entrusted some of the new people to watch after the growth. The sprouts on the right are actually watermelon sprouts. He wanted to see what they would do. Done well so far.
Tomorrow will be my last blog from Iraq. I am so excited to be gone
