What a wonderful meal replacement. If you don't have time to eat you can throw this together real quick. You talk about nutritional vitality. So the smoothie I'm going to show you today uses Chai, frozen peaches and blueberries, shredded carrots and butternut squash. Now, you talk about your antioxidants, keritinoids, you name it, this thing is loaded. The other thing I'm going to be using is the Greek yogurt. I've been hearing a lot about this. Not all Greek yogurts are equal. The Fage is an excellent Greek yogurt because its got all the cultures in it. Chobani is another good one. But watch 'em because the thing about it is these have an expiration date on it and the expiration date is when the active culture is no longer active. The other thing about this Fage is - or the Greek yogurt - and true Greek yogurt is it's double the protein. This one's fat free. You can find it 2%. You can go as high as 11% fat. But the vitality of this is just fantastic. The other thing I like is Almond milk. Almond milk has more antioxidants, some milks have double the calcium of dairy milk. If you have a problem with cow's milk this is a good way to go and the flavor is just fantastic. So now we're going to put them all together. The other trick with this is a lot of smoothies will call for ice cubes and you're just diluting it. I like to freeze. And I got these blueberries - blueberries were on sale. I buy boxes of them and throw the whole thing in the freezer and you got em good to go. Same with bananas. I have bananas galore like I'm going to make banana bread and I never do. I end up throwing them out. Peel em, stick em in a ziplock bag, freeze it. You've got a quick way then for thickening this up. So let's get started. So this smoothie starts with Chai. Found this at Allen's. This is concentrate. You don't want to use the powder or anything like that. In my mega food processor/blender I'm going to take a cup of frozen peaches. I'm going to add half a cup of shredded carrot and about a quarter cup of butternut squash. You can leave the squash out. Once again, I'm cleaning out my freezer so if I got it and it's sittin there I'm going to throw it in. Then we go with half a cup of the Greek yogurt. Now it calls for half a cup of Chai and then I'm going to add about a quarter cup of the almond milk. Now the other thing I'm going to add to this is - I'm always using this stuff - Chinese Five Spice. And, now, we're going to blend it up. It's done. It's got the crunch from the carrot, the intensity of the Greek yogurt. This isn't super sweet. So if you'd like it just a little bit sweeter you can add a little bit of honey to it. This is so packed with great nutrition, complex carbohydrates. It's extremely low in fat and it's loaded with a lot of good calories. This will keep ya till lunch. |
