Game of the Week: Silver Lake vs Kenesaw

(9/24/2009) By Ed Littler - Friday night lights will be burning in Bladen Friday as a pair of undefeated neighbors take on each other in a contest bound to be entertaining. The battle between the Kenesaw Blue Devils and Silver Lake Mustags is our Aurora Cooperative Game of the Week.

The Mustangs enter the game with 2 straight shutouts in their first three games.

That is very rare for 8 man football where points are usually plentiful.
In the 3 games, both teams average scoring over 50 themselves so far.

"Two teams that are undefeated going in 3–0 especially being so close together almost a rivalry game forus to where it is bragging rights for 8 man in Adams County," said Silver Lake Coach Greg Iverson.

"This is the start of district play and both teams are undefeated and we really matchup well. I think the size is there on both sides. You have got great backfield runners and it should be an exciting ballgame," said Kenesaw Blue Devil Coach Craig Schnitzler.

Reggie's Bar and Grill in beautiful downtown Roseland is a hotbed of high school football. That is especially true this week as they urge their Mustangs to a Homecoming win over Kenesaw. That it is Homecoming should add something extra to an already good matchup.

"I think we are already inspired but sometimes with Homecoming it is a bit distracting so hopefully it does not get to us," said Silver Lake wide receiver Nate Kosse.

"We have been talking about it for awhile and as a team looking forward to this game. This was our first loss last year and we know they are good and we are good and it is hopefully going to be a really good game. They like to run the ball and power through so do we so it is going to be a big clash," said Kenesaw running back Josh Powell.

Former Hastings Bronco player and grad assistant coach Greg Iverson is in his first year coaching Silver Lake, he will face veteran Kenesaw Coach Craig Schnitzler.

Last season, the Mustangs spoiled Kenesaw's Homecoming with a win at the home of the Blue Devils, the Devils hope to return the favor in Bladen Friday night. Kickoff is at 7:00, and we will see it on News 5's Fourth Quarter.
