Game of the Week: GICC vs St. Paul
(10/01/2009) News 5 Sports - Anytime two football programs separated by just 20 miles get together, it has all the makings for a good Friday night of Football. And, that is what we will have Friday night when Grand Island Central Catholic travels to St. Paul in our Aurora Cooperative Game of the Week.
The Crusaders from Grand Island come into their game against St. Paul undefeated at 4–0. And, they have not given up more then 6 points yet this season.
GICC Head coach Charlie Shoemaker is in first year at the helm for the Crusaders.
But, he comes over from Central City, a team St. Paul plays every year.
So, both coaches said they are very familiar with each others style of play.
Other than a loss to Broken Bow in week two, St. Paul has won three games and has beaten their opponents by a combined score of 124–23.
The Wildcats rely on their strong defense and senior quarterback Louis Poss.
While, GICC looks to use their big targets at wide receiver including 6 foot 4 Michael Houdek.
Both teams said keeping the other squad's offense in check will be a key in this game.
Grand Island Central Catholic will have to travel to St. Paul for the contest. But, that is fine with them; the Crusaders have been on the road for three of their first four games this season.
GICC enters the game as the 7th ranked team in Class C1 in the AP High School football rankings.
