Game of the Week: St. Cecilia vs GICC
(10/22/2009) News 5 Sports - We have been able to see this game coming several weeks down the line. Both the St. Cecilia Bluehawks and Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders have rolled up 8 impressive victories. They meet Thursday night in their regular season finale with the Class C–1 district title on the line.
The game is our first of two of our Aurora Cooperative Games of the Week.
Both squads have reason to jump for joy this season. Both are heading to the Class C–1 Playoffs regardless of how the game turns out Thursday night.
The Bluehawks have gotten it done on the ground averaging better than 10 yards a carry. They have scored at least five touchdowns every game.
The Crusaders have a great aerial attack with Casey Weins at Quarterback. They have scored no fewer than 4 touchdowns a game.
For these guys, it is their version of the Oklahoma–Texas game.
No matter which team wins Thursday night's game, both are heading to the Class C–1 playoffs. However, winning the game could have a huge difference in securing home field at least for the first round.
In last year's game, the Crusaders struck first with this Casey Weins touchdown pass to take a 7–0 lead, but the Bluehawks responded and came back to dominate the rest of the game for a 47–7 victory.
