There are a number of things to think about when it comes to the New Year and your health.

News 5's Ginger ten Bensel spoke with area doctors to find what they felt were important New Year's health resolutions in this week's special edition of "What's Going Around."

All three of the doctors involved with What's Going Around agree that as you ring in the New Year it's important to get healthier.

It's time to get up and get moving and pay close attention to what you're eating.

Dr. Michael Hanich with the Kearney Clinic says it's a good idea to start eating right and cut your food intake in half. He also says that exercise will make you feel better.

Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice says that for better health, people can make diet changes by cutting back on sweets and fats.

He says that people can start a New Year's diet that consists of whole grain foods along with fruits and vegetables.

Plus smokers can resolve to quit smoking and adopt a healthier lifestyle with more consistent exercise.

Dr. Janice Kutlek with the Grand Island Clinic says that a great New Year's resolution is to eat healthy.

One of the things you can do for better health is get rid of high calorie processed foods and chips and stay out of the fast food line.

Along with that be aware of high calorie drinks.

Kutilek says that water is the best thing you can drink and it makes you feel better.

She also says to make sure your kids get outside and get active.

All the doctors we interviewed agree another good new year's resolution is to limit your screen time in front of the television, the computer and playing video games.
