Help found lacking for children who experience trauma
There's a large lack of scientific evidence on how to help children who've experienced traumatic events.
The Sandy Hook shootings, 9/11, violent storms - all can have a major impact on the psyche of young children. But a new study shows there's little evidence of the best ways to help kids cope and avoid long-term, negative consequences. University of North Carolina doctors reviewed existing research on traumatic stress disorders in kids. A few interventions were found to help in the short-term, but no studies attempted to replicate the findings. There was no evidence medications helped. |
