Low cal menu items boost restaurant sales
A new report reveals low calorie menu items are gaining in popularity - and beefing up restaurant sales.
A study of 21 fast food and sit-down restaurant chains found low cal food and drink sales rose two-and-a-half percent between 2006 and 2011 while high calorie item sales fell more than four-percent. In fact, restaurants that increased their low calorie options significantly boosted their sales while those with fewer diet entrees saw their profits drop. Researchers say these results may make restaurant chains less apprehensive about upcoming laws requiring them to post calorie information on menu boards. |
