It's the most ambitious program in Rotary International's history.
For more than 25 years, the foundation has been working to rid the world of Polio.

During a joint district meeting Tuesday in Grand Island, the Chief Executive Officer at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation spoke on the importance of eradicating this disease.

Rotary, along with the Gates Foundation has been working to help rid the world of polio through the polio-plus campaign.

Jeff Raikes, CEO of the Gates Foundation says it's not only the smart thing to do, but the right thing to do.

"If we can eradicate polio in the next few years, we will save the world $40-$50 billion on polio management over the next 25 years, that is funding that can go to other health needs," said Raikes.

Raikes says polio cases have declined rapidly since 1985, but 99-percent of the world polio-free.

Rotary International has contributed more than $1 billion to help eradicate the disease.
