Strep Throat and the flu are going around. News 5's Ginger ten Bensel spoke with a number of Central Nebraska doctors about the illnesses in this week's edition of "What's Going Around."

Dr. Michael Hanich of the Kearney Clinic says that RSV and Influenza A and B are going around.

He says that doctors in his clinic are seeing 100 patients a week with the flu.

When I asked Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice the question "What's Going Around" he said "what isn't going around."

He's seen patients with influenza A and B as well. He had to hospitalize two babies with RSV and he had to hospitalize two patients with gastroenteritis.

He's also seeing patients with bronchitis and the common colds.

Dr. Janice Kutilek with the Grand Island Clinic says that RSV, Gastroenteritis and the flu are going around.

But she is also seeing all kinds of non-influenza type illnesses.
She says there is a random virus that is going around that mimics the flu.

Patients with the illness have symptoms that include a high fever and body aches. But it's not the true flu.

She has also seen a number of patients with group "A" strep. The most common thing it causes is strep throat, but strep can be a very bad bacteria and it can cause some uncommon complications.

She says that if you have strep throat make sure you finish the antibiotics prescribed by your doctor.
