What's Going Around: Sinus infections, strep throat, allergies
With the up and down temperatures come more illnesses. Tonight news 5's Ginger ten Bensel gives us an update in "What's Going Around?"
Sore throats are still in the air. Here's what's going around this week. Doctor Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice says he's seen a lot of people with colds and sinus infections. Symptoms of sinus infections include extended congestion and headaches. Along with sinus infections, sore throats and strep throat are still going around. Not just in Hastings. Doctor Janice Kutilek with the Grand Island Clinic says she's also seen patients with strep throat and colds. Dr. Johnson said he had one patient with an abscess on the tonsils which is an occasional complication of a sore throat. He has also seen an increase in patients with symptoms of asthma. Cold weather and respiratory infections make it worse for some patents dealing with asthma. Dr. Michael Hanich with the Kearney clinic says he's seen a number of people with allergies. He says as long as the grass stays green allergies will continue to be an issue for some. He's also seen patients with sinusitis, bronchitis and gastroenteritis.
