Preschoolers enjoy 2012 Bear Fair

by Jordan Shefte

Preschoolers in Grand Island had a bear-y special experience Monday. Edith Abbot Memorial Library hosted the 2012 Bear Fair.
Preschoolers participated in activities such as Bear Tales, Bear Aerobics, and many other Bear related stations.

It's an event that aims to bring fun, educational, and health related activities to preschoolers.

"You know there's not a lot going on for kids in January so we thought we'd start a bear fair, this was probably ten years ago, and so we've added different stations but we try to do a lot on reading, every child ready to read, and promoting what we have for literacy," said Youth Services Librarian Celine Swan.

The children were all asked to bring their own teddy bear to accompany them to the stations.

Getting the children exposed to reading at a young age was the objective of the fair.

The Bear Fair continues Tuesday and Wednesday.

You can contact the Edith Abbot Memorial Library if you would like further information about the fair.
