The 4-H Dog Expo is going on in Adams County. Ron Seymour from the Adams County UNL Extension Office and Jenny Thiessen visited with News 5 about the events going on this weekend.

Ron: It's a great weekend. This is the fourth time we've done the Companions for Life 4-H Dog Expo and we have 4-Hrs from all over Nebraska coming to show their dogs, to work with their dogs, to learn more about their dogs. And what we really want to do is invite the public. So we have Jenny Thiessen coming and she's going to be talking here a little bit about some of the education programs that we have, things for the public to learn, to come and see some of the demonstrations and how you work with dogs, on how to work with herding dogs. Have you ever seen herding dogs?

Amy: I haven't, no.

Ron: They are so fun. You have these dogs that are moving sheep around and we have a herding expert coming and he does such a great job and then we have somebody that's going to talk about how you train your dogs to jump off docks.

Amy: I've seen the dock dogs.

Ron: Dock dogs are so cool. It's amazing how far these dogs can jump. So we have opportunities to see dogs in action and learn more. Jenny, do you want to talk about some of the education programs?

Jenny: We have vets coming in and they're going to talk about microchipping and the importance of microchipping and then do microchipping right there on the spot for your dog. So if you're interested in doing that they'll be talking about that. They're also going to have obedience education, agility education sessions and showmanship with the kids. But then we're also going to go ahead and hit on nutrition a little bit so they learn how to read labels and learn how to read your dog food bag. That way they know what they're feeding their pets at home.

Amy: It's not just the scraps from the table.

Jenny: No.

Ron: We do have a session where we're going to talk about what is the right dog for you? What are the different characteristics of these dogs? How do they respond to people? We want to make sure people have the dog that fits their personality. So we'd love people to come. It's Saturday and Sunday this weekend, starts at 9:00 and runs till 5:00. There is a little charge, $3. And it's out at the fairgrounds. So come and enjoy and learn about these dogs.
