A November tradition as sweet as honey
Honey is a sweet treat that goes great with almost anything. But for one organization it's been the staple for a yearly fundraiser.
Since 1963, Honey Sunday, has been a November tradition for the Grand Island Chapter of the ARC of Central Nebraska.
Despite cold temperatures, volunteers still came out to sell bear shaped jars door-to-door and in front of businesses, including Shopko and Sam's Club.
"It began in Grand Island as a way for parents to pay for teachers of their children in the 1960's and it's just grown from there to the state of Nebraska and other states," said Julie Stahla, Vice President of the ARC of Central Nebraska.
Even with fewer sellers, the group managed to sell a majority of their supply of honey.
