Andrew Lyle changes his not guilty plea

by Jordan Shefte

Andrew Lyle was facing charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Robbery, and Unlawful discharging of a firearm.

He pleaded not guilty to those charges in September of 2011.

Monday morning Lyle changed that plea to no contest.

As part of the plea deal, the attempted murder charge was dropped; but the robbery and unlawful discharge of a firearm charges remain.

"There was a second degree murder charge that was dropped as part of the plea agreement, and ultimately we feel that the three robbery charges, the unlawful discharge of a firearm, and also the possession of a firearm by a prohibited person were the five counts that really best fit what actually happened and provide us with the best way to resolve this case and adequately punish what happened," said Sarah Hinrichs, Adams County Deputy County Attorney.

All of this stems from a home invasion in Hastings. And a second incident involving the robbery of two Hibbett Sports employees making a night deposit at Five Points Bank.

Both incidents occurred last May.

Lyle's cousin, Tyrell Lyle was sentenced in December to up 18 years in prison for his involvement with the crimes.

He had pleaded no contest.

"Obviously the co-defendant received a term of incarceration so we would probably hope for something similar I think. These were very serious crimes that didn't just impact the victims directly involved, but it really effected our sense of community and the safety of our community here in Hastings," said Hinrichs.

Andrew Lyle is scheduled to be sentenced April 9th at 1 p.m.
