Former State Senator Ardyce Bohlke passed away Thursday. She had been battling brain cancer. She was 69 years old.

Bohlke was a strong supporter of education. She served on the Hastings School Board and was appointed to the Nebraska legislature in 1991 where she led the education committee.

She successfully pushed to have Kool Aid named as Nebraska's official soft drink.

Bohlke served in the legislature until 2001; when she chose to leave office in order to spend more time with her family.

But she never stopped caring. In an interview last October with News 5, Bohlke shared her support for a salary increase for state senators serving in the unicameral.
