Bill calls for ban on local police drones

A bill that would ban law enforcement from using drones was introduced to the legislature's judiciary committee Thursday.
Senator Paul Schumacher from district 22 introduced the bill. He says it would mainly affect urban areas.

He says as drones return from the battlefield, manufacturers will be targeting new buyers, including law enforcement.

And, Senator Schumacher says once law enforcement has drones it's very hard to "get that genie back in the bottle."

As the bill is written it would ban the use of the unmanned aerial vehicles by law enforcement.

You may remember, some Nebraska farmers and ranchers were concerned last summer that the EPA was possibly using drones to monitor cattle feed lots.

The EPA denied drone use.

The bill is still in committee.
