Bruning pushes for rescheduling of juvenile inmate hearings
An injunction filed late last week put the process of re-sentencing of 24 Nebraska juvenile inmates on hold. Attorney General Jon Bruning is taking the fight to the Nebraska Supreme Court.
He wants to reschedule hearings for the prisoners convicted of killing as juveniles.
Meetings were cancelled after the injunction was filed last Friday.
The injunction barred the state pardons board from gathering twice this week to discuss the cases involving 24 juvenile inmates.
Bruning is on the pardons board with Governor Dave Heineman and Secretary of State John Gale.
Back in June the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that mandating a life sentence for juveniles convicted of murder is unconstitutional.
