A car crashed through a home Sunday afternoon in Grand Island.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. Sunday, near W Capital Ave. and N Sheridan Ave.

A car was headed west-bound when it lost control hit a fence, went through a garage, and then through the side of a home.

There were three passengers in the red car. One resident was in the home at the time.

The resident was transported to the hospital. A passenger from the vehicle was transported, as well.

Witnesses say a second car was involved but may have left the scene.

"There is another vehicle involved, but we don't know to what point," said Sgt. Dale Hilderbrand with the Grand Island Police Department.

Jamie Watch, the property owner says the tenant who is in her 70s, is left with bumps and bruises.

"She has an easy chair in the living room, which she normally sits in and apparently today she opted to sit in the couch," Watch said. "If she had sat in the chair, part of the house would have gone through her body and she would have been dead."

Watch added, "Because she was on the couch, apart of the house and the car that came through the living room pushed the couch across the room into the kitchen area. Because of that, she's in pretty good condition."

"It's possibly a road rage incident where two vehicles were involved," Sgt. Hilderbrand said. "One lost control and struck the house."

The accident is still under investigation, including whether drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor.
