Central City concert will benefit new veterans memorial
If you're looking for something to do this Sunday a great concert is coming up in Central City. Elton Floodman and Thomas Backus spoke with News 5 about the event.
Chris: The concert will support the Heartland's Tribute to Veterans. Let's talk about that structure.
Elton: Yes, that's actually started already and it's in the Lone Tree Park in Central City on the south side. It's right off of Highway 14 and they've put up the main walls where these plaques will be posted and it will probably be finished sometime next year, but they got the first one up right for Veterans Day so I'm really thrilled about this.
Chris: And kind of a unique structure. We were talking about this, not just for Merrick County - anybody from anywhere in the U.S.
Elton: Any United States veteran can have their plaque on there. And there's going to be history out of this thing too the way its designed with maps on the back so the schools can use this for history on certain wars or certain conflicts.
Chris: A great way to support that coming up this Sunday afternoon at the Edwin and Bernice Lock theater in Central City. Thomas, you're part of the revival band that will be playing a whole wide range of music, right?
Thomas: Yes, actually we started out as a rock n roll band, but with this particular program now we're doing gospel, religious songs, Christmas, country and rock n roll.
Chris: And we talk about how it supports, but it's all free will offering isn't it?
Elton: Yes, and all the funds collected at the door are going to go strictly to this tribute and this fund.
Chris: And it's 3:00 to 5:00 pm December 16th at the Edwin and Bernice Lock Theater, the performing arts center there in Central City. Christmas, patriotic, good ole time rock n roll. Great way to support it as well. If you need to find out more about that or the veterans structure itself what's a great place?
Elton: There's the website www.heartlandveterans.com.
