Over 1,600 girls and 160 high school teams from around the state went head to head Saturday.

It's the 6th annual Nebraska State Cheer and Dance Championships.

The two day event was held at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.

Performers took the stage every three minutes.

Teams are judged on everything from athleticism to coordination and choreography.

"These kids are just as dedicated as many of the athletes we may see on a football field, or a basketball court, wrestling match," said Darin Boysen, Executive Director of Nebraska Coaches Association. "They're spending a lot of time. They're greatly dedicated."

Eighty percent of championship revenue will go towards the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Construction on the facility in Lincoln is expected to begin this year.
