Civil War up close at Hastings Museum

The parking lot of the Hastings museum took a step back in time Saturday as the museum commemorated Nebraska's joining of the Civil War 150 years ago.

From soldiers on the battlefield to those who stayed behind. The family event gave visitors a look at what life was like back then.

Special speakers talked about the thousands of war veterans who came to Nebraska after the war.

It was a great way to learn about history and what life would have been like during that era.

Even though Nebraska was not yet a state, 150 years ago the territory sent one-third of its male population to the war, and more than 200 died or were killed.
