The University of Nebraska at Kearney made a big donation to Crossroads Center Rescue Mission - 714 pounds of food.

It's food that the school proved through a week-long project would have gone to waste. During Project Clean Plate they tracked the amount of food and liquid wasted at lunch and dinner in two days.

They found that in just one day over 680 pounds of food and liquid had been wasted.

"I'm overwhelmed to think that so much food would come in and especially that amount. To me, to have that kind of support is incredible," said Crossroads Executive Director Jerry Bumgardner.

The food will go to help feed the 42 residents at the Crossroads Center Rescue Mission in Kearney.

Project Clean Plate was organized by the Residence Hall Association and UNK Dining Services.
