They are working to prevent underage drinking. Community coalitions in 11 Nebraska counties are meeting on a monthly basis to discuss ways to keep kids from consuming alcohol.
Project Extra Mile held its Hall County meeting this afternoon in Grand Island.
The group, which includes local law enforcement and health officials, discussed prevention strategies and community ideas Wednesday.
Mary Dickinson with Project Extra Mile says the summer months may be over, but the efforts to curb underage drinking continue throughout the school year.
"Making sure that kids have places to go after prom, after homecoming, post prom parties and events like that really make sure those kids have a safe environment," said Dickinson.
Dickinson says underage drinking in the state is on the decline.
If you're interested in attending one of the coalition's meetings, they're held on the second Thursday of each month at Platte Valley State Bank in Grand Island.
