Congressman Smith calls for spending responsibility
Republicans met Friday and one of the key issues that has to be fixed is how polarized the two parties are in Congress. Nowhere else is the lack of compromise so evident as the Fiscal Cliff and the debt ceiling.
Friday we caught up with Congressman Adrian Smith while he was in Kearney who says we need to get our spending in order. "Will it resolve everything overnight? No. And so now we've got these other cuts that are pending, actually that have been delayed from the last discussion on the debt ceiling. So we need to resolve those before we move onto this next debt ceiling issue. So the bill that we passed this week will enable us to achieve that movement in the right direction," Smith said. On Wednesday the house passed a bill that effectively extends the debt limit until May 18th. The vote was 285 to 144. |
