Smith faces new opponents for Congress race

Tools

Our political coverage continues with a look at the race for U.S. Congress. Adrian Smith is facing a challenge from two candidates.
First, in the Republican primary against Plainview's Bob Lingenfeller.
And the field includes a local Central Nebraska democrat.

Mark Sullivan is a farmer and cattle feeder from Doniphan. Sullivan says he's been interested in politics for many years and he has always felt he would be able to do something in the political arena after retirement.

Sullivan has lived in the 3rd district all of his life and he says that it's important that his district has a choice in a race as big as this one.

"I have a lot of experience in life. I don't have much political experience and non campaigning, but I do believe that I know the 3rd district. I know the people and I think I can get along with both sides of the isle and be more effective," said Sullivan.

Smith was first elected to Congress in 2006 and has since been endorsed by Governor Heineman.
