The hardships children and teens face during and after foster care are becoming more apparent everyday.

Local organizations are confronting those adversities and changing lives in the process.

Community members gathered as the Royal Family Kids' Camp and Teen Reach Adventure Camp kicked off their 19th Annual Chili Cook Off.

It was a time for cooks to showcase their best chili recipes and give back at the same time.

"Royal Family Kids' Camp serves kids in the foster care system that have experienced abuse and neglect in their young lives," said Daniel Buhr, Director Royal of Family Kids' Camp.

"We really hope today was a time for people to learn about at-risk youth in our area, in this community and let them know that there are programs out there that are creating memories and positive experiences for kids," said Andy Perdew, Director of TRAC.

The goal was to raise $4,000 at the event to help each camp.
