Crane Trust director becomes new head of GI visitors bureau

For the past four years he's been the leader behind the Crane Trust Nature and Visitor Center near Alda. Now Brad Mellema will head tourism efforts in all of Grand Island and Hall County as the executive director of its Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Besides the Crane Trust, Mellema also brings experience as director of the Rowe Sanctuary in Gibbon, is a certified 4-H Shooting Sports facilitator and a Nebraska Game and Parks Hunter Safety educator.

Mellema was named the Nebraska Wildlife Federation Conservation Educator of the Year in 2012.

His new duties involve managing two visitor information centers, planning and on-site convention services and working alongside the Grand Island Sports Council.
