Crossroads prepares for Thanksgiving feast

On the 14th they had their big fall banquet at the Crossroads Mission Rescue to help provide funds for the entire year. Kyle Bruna spoke with News 5 about the event.

Amy: Can you give us a recap on how it went?

Kyle: It went so well, so smooth. It was the first year I was involved and so I couldn't be happier with how it went. But the biggest thing of all is we raised right around $63,000 between table sponsors, just people who gave gifts, major donors. So we were very happy and very excited with the outcome.

Amy: It sounds fantastic. You have more things going on, of course. Like the Salvation Army you are having a Thanksgiving dinner, but this is later in the evening.

Kyle: Yes, we're complementing them. They're having theirs over lunch time; we're having ours for supper. It's 4:00 to 7:00. Anyone can come down. That's when we'll be serving.

Amy: Where's it going to be again?

Kyle: It'll be at the Crossroads Mission on 14th Street behind Burlington Express. So we plan to serve over 200 people. We're very excited; we're ready. We've had a great response. We have over 45 volunteers ready to serve. We just want it to feel like home. A lot of our guests who will be attending don't get to go home or can't afford to go home, can't afford to have such a meal. We're just trying to create the environment for the holidays that we all love.

Amy: Make it a real Thanksgiving with everyone saying what they're thankful for.

Kyle: Yes, it makes a world of difference. There's people that care.

Amy: Speaking of people that care, do you need more volunteers, do you need more items at this point?

Kyle: We need some volunteers to help deliver. Some of our guests are people that would like to join us but cannot because they are physically handicapped or they don't have transportation. So we would like to deliver those meals to them. Also, we need, maybe, some side dishes like prepared casseroles. We've gotten plenty of turkeys which is a huge blessing. So now we just need more along the side items.

Amy: Fantastic. And if somebody wants to do some of that or bring in meals how do they get a hold of you?

Kyle: They can call down to our facilities down there and they can also check us out online and they can get in contact with Kyle Martindale, the other Kyle. Just call down and we'll get them connected.
