Crossroads seeks food donations during kitchen remodel
Crossroads Rescue Mission in Hastings needs your help. Their kitchen is undergoing some remodeling and so for the next month they need some food brought in from other areas. Kevin Theesen spoke with News 5 about the project.
Kevin Theesen: Yes, currently, we are redoing our kitchen. We're putting in a new hood in the kitchen, a new frier, an open-flame grill. It's going to be shut down for approximately a month so we're needing people to bring in food. It could be casseroles, it could be crockpot meals, anything to help with the food. We are working the lunches. We have sack lunches that are being donated so the lunches are covered. But for the meals in the evening time we're needing people to help out a little.
Amy West: How many people should they plan for? Because the center is pretty full right now, correct?
Kevin: Right, anywhere between 70 to 80 people. So that's quite a few people. Right now we have approximately 15 children so some fun food would be fun to bring in. It could be desserts. It could be anything just to help out because with that many people we really need to have the food. And we do have in the evenings an open table where people come from the street. So we never really know how many people are going to be there. So it could be more. So if anyone would like to bring any food they can take it to the front or they could call Crossroads and ask for Kyle. Kyle is the one who is going to put that all together and so it's going to be a big project for the next month.
Amy: A very big project! And how needed are these upgrades?
Kevin: This is the first time, since I've been there, that we've upgraded the kitchen. With the hood, it's been there a long time, so it'll be nice to have new stuff, new equipment.
Amy: To be able to accommodate the crowds you're seeing.
Kevin: Right. Because when I first started there almost 4 years ago we had 35 guests that lived there. Now, we're up to 70-80. So we need a lot more food,
