Cyber Monday grows in popularity

Millions of Americans opted to shop from the comfort of their homes this year, which is expected to be the biggest online shopping day in history.

Cyber Monday is expected to top sales of nearly $2 billion.

News 5's Josh Egbert caught up with one local shopper Monday to find out why online shopping has become so popular.

It's all about convenience and finding that perfect deal.

CyberMonday.com has a list of all the deals to be had Monday online.
And for some shoppers they prefer this type of shopping than battling the crowds at the stores.

Shelby Gowan is in full shopping mode.

"I have been kind of watching stuff online and realized that I was going to save more money going this route than running around," said Gowan.

After three family members had surgeries this year, she knew she had to save.

"I knew things were going to be very tight," Gowan said.

So this stay at home mom turned to online shopping.

"I get to sit at home and keep an eye on my kids and shop and not have to spend that money on babysitters and gas," said Gowan.

And with just a click of the mouse, the deals are already paying off.

"I've already got one deal that it would have been $130 and I'm getting it for $60 and it's being shipped to me for free," said Gowan.

Many of the online stores are offering free shipping, but only for Cyber Monday. For shoppers like Shelby, she has thousands of stores right in front of her.

"I have every store at my fingertips," Gowan said.

Shelby is not alone. It's estimated some 20 million people will get online Monday to shop, an increase of 14 percent from last year saving both time and money.

"Every little dime matters in today's economy, it really does," said Gowan.

All while avoiding that holiday rush.

"Why not save myself money and save myself time?"
