The doors at Ayr and Tri View Elementary Schools will soon close. But, the move isn't happening without some concerns from the community.
News 5's Dara Newson attended a public meeting Monday night at Juniata Elementary School, where parents and the Adams Central school board gathered.
There was a good number of parents at the meeting. Many of them were throwing their support behind one particular principal.
The school board held a meeting Monday night to discuss their goals for each elementary site.
They say none of the decisions made have been easy for them. Those include closing the two sites, plus eliminating busing and now cut backs to staff.
Elementary students in the Adams Central School District will find out by April if they'll be going to a different school next year.
The school board says their goal is to keep current movement to a minimum and ensure that every child gets the best education.
But that wasn't the only concern during the public meeting Monday night due to the school closings and overall cut backs to staff Juniata Elementary School will be affected including popular Juniata elementary school principal Lonnie Abbot.
He'll possibly be replaced and reassigned to a different school site.
That has some parents unhappy.
"Watching Lonnie deal with those kids is heart warming," said one parent.
"When you have someone who is so talented and such a good leader that's an attractive situation for every school in this district so I understand where their coming from but I don't want it to change," said parent Travis Stoner.
The school board says they've decided to make the change so their students can maximize their education.
They've already received four applications for teacher assignments.
The school board plans to fill the principal seat plus make other cut backs after March 5th.
Ayr and Tri-View Elementary Schools will close at the end of the school year. The school board also intends to place two modulars that will house students from Ayr and Tri-View sites.
