Nebraska U.S. senate candidate Deb Fischer was joined by Governor Dave Heineman Wednesday morning at Husker Harvest Days talking about her recent endorsement from the Nebraska Farm Bureau.

Fischer received the endorsement back in July.

The Farm Bureau says Fischer's stance on tax relief and what they call her promotion to strong water and roads policies are what gained her their support.

But one of the big issues on both Fischer and Heineman's minds were the Farm Bill. Both say something needs to get passed soon.

"Hopefully we'll get the house to work with the senate and get that bill passed so that we can see some relief for a lot of livestock owners since that was taken out of the bill previously," said Fischer.

"The fact that the President of the United States and Congress haven't come together yet to pass a farm bill is a great disappointment. We shouldn't be at this stage," Heineman said.

It will be November before Congress completes the new $500 billion bill.

That's because lawmakers cannot agree on what to cut - support to farmers or food stamps for the poor.

Wednesday, about 60 farm and agribusiness groups rallied on Capitol Hill to get that farm bill passed.
