Democratic Convention wraps up in Omaha
Where in the world is State Senator Deb Fischer? That was one of the questions asked by Senator Ben Nelson during the 2012 Democratic state convention in Omaha.
Nebraska Democrats zeroed in on the 2012 Senate battle this weekend during their biannual meeting. Senator Nelson, who will leave the Senate at the end of the year when his term is up, talked with delegates about the upcoming election. The senator questioned why Republican nominee Deb Fischer is not engaging Bob Kerrey on the issues vital to the state. Kerrey addressed the crowd saying GOP National Strategist Karl Rove and the industrialist Koch Brothers are telling lies to Nebraskans in the flood of television attack ads. "It's a lie and it's destructive," said Democratic Senate nominee Bob Kerrey. "Not just to my campaign, it's destructive to the state and we need to call it out. It's not negative advertising it's a lie. Karl Rove said on Fox I turned my back on Nebraska. That is a lie." Fischer's campaign manager Aaron Trost says Kerrey's negative attacks are ridiculous and desperate and reflective of a candidate trailing badly in the polls. New poll results show Fischer leading Kerrey by 25 points in the U.S. Senate race. According to the Public Opinion Strategy results, 58 percent of those polled said they would vote for Fischer if the election were being held now. While 33 percent said they would vote for Kerrey. Seven percent said they were undecided. The Nebraska Republican Party State Convention will be held July 13th and 14th in Grand Island. |
