We now know the name of the man hit and killed by a Union Pacific Train in Grand Island last night. Forty-one year old Shane Peck was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, The accident happened around 5:00. Police responded to North Front and Broadwell.

It was reported that Peck was sitting on the tracks facing east when he was struck and killed by a westbound Union Pacific train.

"Personnel on the train did see someone on the tracks and tried to alert the individual. Obviously, they're going to sign all emergency devices that they have available at the time, also try to essentially put the train in emergency stop or emergency lock which they did do," said Grand Island Police Captain Robert Falldorf.

Police are not determining whether the incident is a possible suicide or not.

The case has been forwarded to the Hall County Attorney and will be investigated.
