A mother and her son remain hospitalized Tuesday morning after a dog attack in Grand Island late Monday afternoon.

Grand Island police say 29 year old Kayla Shoestring and her 4 year old son Hayden were both injured in the accident and taken to Saint Francis Medical Center.

Hayden remains at the hospital and is in stable condition Tuesday morning.

Kayla was treated and St. Francis and then transferred to the trauma center Bryan LGH West hospital in Lincoln where she remains in serious condition.

Details from the accident have yet to come forward, but initial information indicates that the two were familiar with the dog's owner and were near their home on West North Front Street when the accident happened between 4:30 and 5:00 in the evening.

Animal control captured the dog, a Pitt Bull, and transferred it to a holding area at the Central Nebraska Humane Society in Grand Island.

Humane Society representatives tell News 5 that the pitt bull's owner has decided to have the dog euthanized.
