Downtown living brings growth to Hastings

Downtown living has become pretty popular in the city of Hastings. And, that could be the key to more revitalization in the downtown area.

At Monday night's city council meeting, a public hearing was held to review the downtown strategic plan presented by the architectural design group Alley-Poyner Macchietto.

The company began their research back in November.

That included conducting four meetings with Hastings residents and gathering information on how to improve downtown.

The conclusion? Attract more people to live downtown.

The group also mentioned how Hastings has a leg up on some cities because they already have success stories of residents living downtown.

And, those were started when they economy was going through a recession.

This same company is conducting a downtown plan for the city of Grand Island.

On Tuesday, the city will unveil their plan to the public.
That meeting is being held at 1:30 at the Grand Theatre.
