Election process could change for older voters
The election process for seniors in Nebraska could soon change. LB 433 is trying to avoid problems with abuse and election fraud for people in nursing homes and hospitals.
Secretary of State John Gale supports the bill which would require two registered voters who are not in the same political party to deliver the ballots. In addition to that, a report is provided saying how many ballots were cast, information of the administrators, and the information of the nursing home or hospital. The Kensington in Hastings says this past year almost half of their residents voted in the election. "They are wonderful people. They might be old but they know. They read the newspapers, watch the news, they know what is going on and that's been there right for how many years to vote," said Kensington Program Coordinator Rhonda Kolbet. Kolbet says seniors value their right to vote adding that over 40 residents marked their ballots in the last election. |
