Five arrested in Hastings drug bust
Multiple agencies, including the FBI, launched a drug bust in Hastings early Thursday morning. Five arrests were made in the case. It took place in a mobile home park in east Hastings near the 1200 block of East Park Street.
Officers of the Central Nebraska Drug and Safe Streets Task Force arrested several people on Federal complaints. Esubia Bueno was charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. Jaime Barazza was charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine. Ruben Manzano was charged with distribution of 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine. And, two other suspects Francisco Barazza and Romero Chavez were arrested on state charges of possession of methamphetamine. "I believe it started around 6 am," said Hastings Police Sergeant Bill Mann. "It's very scary," a neighbor said. The task force served a search warrant in Hastings near the 1200 block of East Park Street at home number 43 at K and K Plaza. Neighbors awoke to the arrests. "I heard a loud noise and I thought that it was my neighbor getting called into work. I didn't think anything of it." Two neighbors recount the early morning raid. "I looked outside and there were police cars, sheriff vehicles, unmarked vehicles, a big black pick up with a topper on the back of it with officers in the back end of it." "Well, I woke up when my wife said, 'get up, the place is full of cops' and I got up went to the front room looked out the window and sure enough. Lot of activity out here, lot of flashing lights, lot of vehicles, people running around with flashlights, and looking for something. Kind of a nice bit of excitement for 6 o'clock in the morning." They seized around a half of a pound of methamphetamine. "They went through vehicles searching through the vehicles, they searched a shed, and I think they might have searched in the home because they went in a home." "They were looking in things and under things and around things. So I felt like they were looking for something." News 5 spoke with the manager of this mobile home park where one of the arrests was made, he says that typically this is a quiet neighborhood. But this morning it was anything but, leaving neighbors shook up. "You never know, now a days, what can happen, but yes it was scary for me." "Kind of scary, but again that's the world we live in now a days. There's all kinds of stuff happening at every place, nobody's immune." This incident is still under investigation. The FBI is leading the case. Many of the details are upheld as the investigation continues. Initial appearances will be in federal court on Tuesday. Four of these individuals are being held at the Adams County Jail. One is being held in Hall County. |
