Fairfield wrestles with mishandled funds issue

Tools

What started off as a routine audit has turned ugly in the small town of Fairfield. A week ago the city learned through a private audit that there had been misappropriation of funds.

It led to the suspension of the city clerk. And, while the information has been handed over to the Nebraska State Patrol, the fallout continues.

In a city council meeting earlier this week former city council member, Jim Lipovsky showed up to address the mishandling of funds.

In a phone interview Lipovsky said the problem had been going on for a while.

Fairfield Mayor Lynn Ridgway took offense to that.

He said when Lipovsky was a council member he slandered his colleagues without any proof of what was going on.

The audit remains under investigation.
