Farmers hit billion dollar mark for crop insurance

Tools

One billion dollars. That's how much Nebraska farmers collected through crop insurance because of last year's drought.

According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Nebraska is one of six states to reach the billion mark.

In all, $12.3 billion was paid out across the country as of Monday.

The other main concern for Nebraska farmers? Congress not passing a new five-year farm bill before the end of 2012.
