Farmers respond to farm bill extension
Part of that budget deal included the farm bill. Congress agreed to extend the previous one for nine months. But, what does this mean for farmers?
Some people say forget the extension we need a whole new farm bill. UNL Extension Educator Ron Seymour says farmers need price supports and protection for poor production. "Farming is a really risky business and you're really at the whims of the weather and if you don't get rain then either you don't get a crop or it costs you an awful lot more," said Seymour. Seymour said the new farm bill the Senate was working on did address these issues. He added the sooner we get a new farm bill the better. |
