News 5 has confirmed a toddler has died after a fatal pedestrian accident involving multiple vehicles.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. Sunday, off E. South St. and S. Pine Ave.

According to the Hastings Police Department, two or more vehicles struck and killed a child under the age of two.

A neighbor says the child may have been struck by a pickup truck and then again by a car.

The neighbor says he heard the drivers say they didn't see the child in the street.

That neighbor is a former nurse and ran to the scene immediately after the accident.

"The mother was just really upset and crying and screaming and everything," said the neighbor. "She's just yelling, Porque porque, why. And it was just a sad, sad sight."

"At this point we're investigating a fatality of a child under the age of two where it's possible that the child was struck by two to three vehicles," said Capt. Adam Story with the Hastings Police Department.

Hastings Police, Hastings Fire and Rescue, the Adams County Sheriff Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the accident.

The accident is still under investigation.
