Grand Island officials have announced two finalists to fill John Collins position as Public Works Director. Among those names: John Collins.

Collins served as Grand Island's Public Works director from March 2011 through July of last year.

He resigned to take a position outside of Grand Island.

During his tenure with the city of Grand Island, Collins was instrumental in implementing the downtown quiet zone
and developing an improvement plan for the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

A city spokesperson had no other information on Collins' change of heart, but there is a press conference scheduled with the finalists Monday morning.

The other candidate is Gering city engineer Paul Snarr.
