Heavy smoke and fire in the attic forced tenants to evacuate the Lazy V apartments. Grand Island Fire Department was called to the East Highway 30 location just after 7:00 pm Thursday night.

When the fire department arrived, there was smoke coming from the west building and officials said they saw flames in the attic.

The manager told News 5 he believed it was the back 2 apartments were most affected.

The fire forced law enforcement to shut down part of Highway 30 for water access.

The blaze was under control within a half an hour.

The cause is still under investigation.
