by Adam Carlini

Friday an Idaho veteran made a stop in Grand Island on a cross country journey. He is running across the country placing flags at every mile marker to remember and honor those who have fallen in Iraq.

Mike Ehredt started running in Oregon on May 1st and hopes to end his journey in Rockland, Maine October 14th.

Mike has already left nearly 2300 flags and has nearly 2,000 to go.

He is running at a pace of 20 to 30 miles a day.

In the end that is 4500 miles in 170 days.

He said his inspiration for the journey was his time spent in the army from 1979 to 1983.

"I have never forgotten who I am, where I am and what I have is because the sacrifices of the military so if somebody sees a flag along a mile marker, you know, and it makes them take a moment and reflect and say thank you, then that is a good thing," said Ehredt.

Saturday, Mike leaves Grand Island as he continues his journey towards the east coast.
