Flu cases escalate across the state

The flu is rapidly spreading across the United States. The Center For Disease control has Nebraska as moderate for flu-like activity. By now you should have that flu shot.

The other piece of advice as the number of cases increase: wash your hands.

All it takes is a sneeze.

And the American Red Cross is even urging people to get vaccinated if they haven't.

We've really seen the situation escalate this week.

The Nebraska Department of Health of Human Services says there have been 272-confirmed cases of the flu statewide.

Two deaths were reported in the state from Lancaster County. A child died last week and an adult died in late December.

Mary Lanning Healthcare says 15 people have been been hospitalized with the flu since the last week of December when the season picked up.

Good Samaritan in Kearney has seen 9 hospitalized most in the past 2 weeks.

And the Central District Health Department in Grand Island says a total of eleven people have been confirmed with influenza A and B. But a lot of people don't get tested for the illness.
